Proposal & Grant Set-Up Maintenance

Upon being informed of the results of the proposal review,
  • the CSST Scientist should inform the CSST office of the results,
including all award-related documentation (or e-mails etc) for successful proposals (only)

The CSST Office will pass on this information to UMBC's Office of Sponsored Programs Adminsitration (OSPA, or more commonly simply referred to as OSP) who will start the set-up procedures.

  • the CSST Scientist may be contacted directly by OSP personnel should OSP require further information.

Once the project is set-up within the framework of UMBC's PeopleSoft financial system [which normally results in an e-mail message to the CSST Scientist which needs no action at this stage], the CSST Office will contact the scientist and start planning on how & when the funds will be spent.

  • the CSST Scientist should note that
NO FUNDS CAN BE SPENT UNTIL THE MONEY ACTUALLY ARRIVES at UMBC.

Once the funds do arrive at UMBC

  • the CSST Scientist is usually emailed an "Event Notification" by OSP
  • the CSST Scientist will usually also be contacted by the CSST Office to confirm how the funds are allocated etc, and how & when they will be spent.
THE FUNDS MUST BE SPENT IN A MANNER CONSISTENT WITH THE JUSTIFICATION GIVEN IN THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL

Once the funds start being spent

  • the CSST Office will start tracking their expediture, but
it is the responsiblity of the CSST Scientist is maintain their own estimates of when the funds will run out, and to what they plan to do when this happens.
