General NSPIRES Info
All PIs and co-Is on NASA proposals need to be registered with the
NSPIRES
system. This can be done by
following the "Registration Information" link on the above page.
The procedure is fairly straightforward and painless, however JCA members
must remember to make their affiliation
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND BALTIMORE COUNTY.
(Those JCA members working at GSFC
should make GSFC an "association" in the NSPIRES system.)
In order to be formally submitted via the NSPIRES system, you must
click the "release to ORG" button once you have finished.
The proposal is then reviewed by
UMBC OSP personnel, and 'submitted' (by OSP)
if all the information is correct.
In order to do this OSP will usually require additional information
(most often a completed & signed UMBC Routing Form:
see solicitation-specific sections
for more information).
Step-by-step Instructions for creating a proposal in NSPIRES
- Log into
NSPIRES.
- Check all your information is correct/up-to-date.
OSP may refuse to submit the proposal if crucial information
is incorrect, missing or out-of-date.
- Go to "Proposals" and hit the "Create Proposal" (righthand side)
- Check "Solicitation", then continue
- Find & check the relevant solicitation, continue
- Enter a Title (obviously make it the same of that on the
"real" science proposal!), continue
- If you have registered with the correct affiliation, then UMBC should be
available to be checked as the "Submitting Organization".
- If not, then correct this via the
Account Mgmt link(in black bar)
When you have done this the proposal will be available for you to edit
next time you log into NSPIRES. You are now ready to fill in all the
additional information:
|
"Proposal Summary"
- basically just the abstract (try and keep it
identical to that on the "real" proposal!)
"Business Data"
- fairly obvious information, including Start & Stop dates
(See the relevant
solicitation-specific sections
for suggestions.)
"Budget" (if appropriate).
See the relevant
solicitation-specific sections
for suggestions & instructions
"Program-Specific Data"
- obvious, I suggest selecting:
- Question-2: "Educational Institution";
- Question-4: For GO proposals "2)Data Analysis.."
(for others "1)Theory/Comp.." maybe relevant)
"Proposal Team"
- for co-Is and Support staff
All HAVE to be already registered with NSPIRES, so make sure to
contact them well ahead of the deadline.
|
Note: when you click on any of the above, you have to click on the grey
(righthand side, sometimes you'll have to scroll-right to get to it!)
"Edit" button to make changes.
(And of course "OK" or "Continue" etc to save the changes..)
Again, remember that in order
to be formally submitted via the NSPIRES system, the PI must
click the "release to ORG" button. The proposal is then reviewed by
UMBC OSP personnel, and submitted if all the information is correct
AND OSP have the other information their require
(see solicitation-specific sections
for more info on the latter).
