Astrophysics Research on campus

The astrophysical research underway by UMBC campus-based personnel in dominated by high-energy (X- and Gamma-ray) observations and theory of ExtraGalactic Sources.

Specific topics currently underway or recently performed include (in no particular order):

  • X-ray observations of Seyfert Galaxies using data obtained using the Chandra X-ray Observatory, the XMM-Newton mission, the Suzarku satellite.
  • Development of theoretical models for the X- & Gamma-ray emission from Blazars
  • Hard X-ray observations and interpretation of the hard X-ray emssion from clusters of galaxies
