Educational Background

Research Interests

Extremely long observation times (> 1 day) for most extragalactic objects have become common as a result of the great advances in spatial (e.g., ~60 improvement from Einstein to Chandra) and spectral resolution (e.g., ~1000 improvement from HEAO-1 to Astro-E2) over the past 25 years. Consequently, the tendency in high energy astrophysics now is to conduct detailed studies of single objects. However, this is not necessarily the best way to obtain a true understanding of a class of objects and is not common in the more traditional wavebands (i.e., radio and optical). Over the next decade, large astronomical databases will become available in all wavebands. A significant challenge to the researcher is to combine proprietary and archival observations to produce accurate, high impact research involving well selected survey samples. (more detail...)
